Pros

  • Unofficial Fortnite Guide
  • News feed
  • Access to live shop

Cons

  • No Save the World Support

This Unofficial Companion for Fortnite by FortGG keeps you in touch even when you can’t play.

The FortGG Unofficial Companion for Fortnite is an unofficial guide and portal for Fortnite fans. Unofficial in this case means that it is not associated with or approved by Epic Games in any manner. The app homepage is a newsfeed that gives you the latest news not just from Epic but from throughout the Fortnite world.

The FortGG app also has its own text chat, which lets you talk with other Fortnite fans. Be mindful that this chat does not tie into the actual Fortnite chat and is its own thing. Still, it is a pretty effective way to meet other Fortnite fans outside of an actual match, which makes it a nice feature.

The app also gives you full access to the Fortnite live shop. You get a 360-degree view of each item. You can’t actually buy or claim anything, however, and this feature is perhaps a lot less novel now the Fortnite supports Android directly. Nevertheless, it may be easier than loading that app.

One area where the FortGG Unofficial App still shines is giving you access to every gun in the game. These are full 3D models that you can rotate. The app also provides you a complete catalog of every skin ever made, which is a nice way to look at skins that are no longer or not currently available.

Want wallpapers for your phone or tablet? This app has a massive catalog of them as well as video clips. The video clips are an effective way to keep up with the best Fortnite moments of the day. The app also features an entire guide as well as dozens perhaps hundreds of tips and tricks. There are sections for improving your building skills, identifying where to land, handling your inventory and so on.

The community does not create the guide directly, but it does drive it. That means that the guide is kind of living thing that grows as the game does. There is also the promise of weekly and monthly V-Bucks giveaways that every member has access to at no cost. However, these giveaways seemed to be dead during our review, and since this app was last updated in 2018, it may signal end of life.

You may not know it due to the massive success of Fortnite as a battle royal PvP game, but Fortnite actually has a PvE mode, which is called Save the World. This app’s glaring omission is that it completely ignores Save the World, and you can make an argument that the PvE side actually has more need of a companion app like this one. What makes this omission even more glaring is that the most popular unofficial app—this app’s main competition—does support Save the World and does it quite well.
